Corrections and Retraction Policy
The Microbiology Archives: An International Journal maintains a comprehensive corrections and retraction policy to uphold the integrity of the scientific record. This policy addresses the need for transparency and accountability in research publication, ensuring that any necessary corrections or retractions are handled in a manner that protects both the authors’ and the readers’ interests.
Corrections Policy
Corrections may be issued for published articles due to errors that affect the content, interpretation, or conclusions of the research. These corrections can include typographical errors, inaccuracies in data presentation, or omissions that may mislead readers. When such issues are identified, the editorial team will evaluate the significance of the error. If deemed substantial, a correction notice will be issued alongside the original article, clearly indicating the nature of the correction and how it affects the overall findings. This process ensures that readers have access to the most accurate and up-to-date information.
Retraction Policy
Retractions are more serious and occur when an article is found to contain significant flaws that undermine its validity or if ethical concerns arise, such as instances of plagiarism, data fabrication, or ethical violations. In the event of a retraction, the editorial team will investigate the matter thoroughly and collaborate with the authors involved. If a retraction is warranted, a formal retraction notice will be published, detailing the reasons for the retraction. This notice will clearly state that the article should not be cited or relied upon.
The Microbiology Archives is committed to ensuring the highest standards of research integrity. By implementing these policies, the journal seeks to foster an environment of trust and accountability within the scientific community, allowing for the continued advancement of knowledge in the field of microbiology.
When a retraction is issued, the original article will remain on the journal’s website with a watermark stating “RETRACTED” and an accompanying retraction notice explaining the reason. Retractions will be clearly marked to differentiate them from corrections.
Responsibility for Corrections and Retractions
Corrections or retractions can be initiated by:
- The authors of the article.
- The editorial team based on reviewer or reader feedback.
- External parties such as readers or other researchers.
The final decision to issue a correction or retraction lies with the Editor-in-Chief, following consultation with the editorial board and adherence to COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines.
